Burns Night celebration raises £750 for lifeboat restoration

THE skirl of bagpipes announced the arrival of the haggis as diners gathered in the Fishermans Return for a Burns Night supper that raised £750 for the lifeboat restoration fund.

A packed restaurant then watched Ian Barclay address it with the words of Scotland's most famous poet, Robert Burns.

The formal event also featured live music from Tash and Brad and a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Garden wall damaged

A SECTION of the walled garden at the junction of The Lane and King Street was knocked down after a vehicle collided with it.

The incident has been reported to the police and parish council deputy chairman Nigel Coe told colleagues at last Wednesday's meeting that contact would be made with the person who was thought to have been driving.

It was one of two incidents where damage was caused in the area. On January 19 a lorry hit two concrete posts and a fence panel as it attempted to get past parked cars in King Street.
