Pop in to Poppy's

SAY hello to your new postmasters Jeanne and Gino Farace.

The couple from Enfield, who have wanted to have a shop in the village for several years, took over the Post Office store in the middle of August and are already settling in.

They’ve got plans for a little deli counter and next week they are hoping to have the floor taken up and levelled.

The redundant Post Office kiosk has been removed and is believed to be heading for Caister museum.

Jeanne said: “We’re making it more wheelchair and buggy friendly and we’re opening up space as much as we can.”

“Everybody has been lovely. We’re learning things every day and we hope people will be patient with us.”

The shop will also be renamed Poppy’s at Winterton-on-Sea. Jeanne explained it was after the couple’s dog and because of the nearby poppy fields.

“We thought it was quite appropriate because it is such a dog friendly village,” she said.

Jeanne, who has been visiting the village for more than 30 years, said Gino’s father used to have a deli in Enfield and then a newsagent’s.

Ready for a change of scenery, the couple had hoped to buy Loomes when it went up for sale some years ago, but were pipped at the post.
